optimize site for humans and not for robots image

According to Neil Patel, an SEO expert and recognized as one of the top 100 entrepreneurs under the age of 30 by the former President Barack Obama, most people involve in SEO have a wrong impression of doing it. They are optimising sites in order to create a stronger presence in search engines. Patel suggests that optimisation effort should be directed to gaining real peoples' attention, interest and time.

What is a search engine robot?

The robots or crawlers regularly access the worldwide web and look for links that it can store in its database. The crawlers find links within a site or links from other sites. It can thoroughly index pages through titles, summaries or whole document.

Search engine robots have different kinds. There are robots that crawl and search for an RSS feed of blogs or documents, there are robots that crawl images or video only and there is the main robot whose work is to index information. The simple proof of these kinds of robot can be seen in the search engine result page (SERP).

Taking the sample search engines result page, below the search box is the menu where search results are categorized into news, web, images, video and others. As the main purpose of this menu is to organize the result, it also represents the kinds of robot these search engines have.

Optimising for robots

When the focus of the SEO campaign is to simply pull or invite the robots to crawl a site as much as they can, they purpose of SEO ends when the site achieve a high rank position in SERP that the website owners wants. The interaction will be between the site and robots, thus limiting the growth of the site to mere a rank.

Optimisation for Human

Optimisation for human interaction should not be differentiated to optimisation for robots. Both will need to be indexed first and be search engine friendly. SEO for human is simply much better in terms of conversion and generating a real audience. The approach is to focus on improving product or service and the user experience of a site in hope to rank in the long run. Optimisation for humans should be taught as a marketing investment and not as an advertising expense.
